Since 2014, Ramadan has been a season for batch service. We started with annual Ifthar dinners — Lady Fareed Home for the Elders, Ash-Shifa for children with special needs, then on through the years. In 2022, with the country in economic crisis, we made a different call. The annual Ifthar paused. The Ramadhan Pledge began: a quiet, internal collection during the holy month, distributed within the batch to members navigating hardship.
We don’t fundraise externally and we don’t publish names. We pledge among ourselves, we give among ourselves, and on rare occasions we extend it outside the batch — flood relief, a community emergency. The pledge is not a transaction; it’s a habit. It’s how we look after our own.
The initiative was recognised at Crescent Night 2023 with the Outstanding Social Service Project Award.
