GREMAW 007 — Our Annual Batch Get-together

Bidding farewell to life at College, the batch had just started off exploring the world outside. With the urge of giving back to college, G9 understood the best thing to do was to keep in touch. As a result, GREMAW was introduced.

The idea was to have a batch party and to felicitate teachers and individuals who did a prodigious service to the college. The name GREMAW symbolises the college colours — GReen, MAroon & White.

December 2009 was simply the beginning. GREMAW became an annual event in the G9 calendar — every year till this date G9 gathered during the latter part of the year. The idea is simply to keep in touch and remind ourselves of the beautiful beginnings we had during life at Mother Zahira.

This year, while hosting GREMAW 007, the G9 EXCO has some great plans for the future. We have seen our batch grow from a bunch of school leavers to Directors, Doctors, Engineers, Consultants, Lecturers, Business owners and more.

Zahira Walk 2017 — Marking 125 Years of Zahira College

Marking the 125th Anniversary of Zahira College, the OBA organised the “Zahira Walk 2017” — and G9 had their team working on a magnificent performance for the walk.

A sumptuous truck decor coupled with hats and cloaks for the members and a spectacular 40-piece Papare band added much colour to the day. G9 once again proved that when it comes to showing up for Zahira, the batch of 2009 always delivers.

This follows the equally memorable contribution during the Zahira Walk 2012, where G9 organised a container truck, graduate hats and the sounds of papare — a definite value addition to that event marking the College’s 120th Anniversary.

G9 Cricket 6’s — 12 Teams, 72 Players, One Champion

The G9 Cricket 6’s is a fellowship event initiated by G9 to keep the members together and build the brotherhood. This year, 12 teams and 72 players from G9 battled for the champion trophy at Prison Grounds, Colombo on the 22nd of January 2017.

It was a rollicking time for all G9 members who battled with their own group mates and enjoyed the day.

G9 Flood Relief 2016 — Coming Together for Sri Lanka

May 15th, 16th, 17th 2016 — an unforgettable set of days for many people around Sri Lanka. The flood which took over many lives and disturbed many, mostly across Colombo suburbs.

G9 initially wanted to step in to help their members but then realised the potential they had was much greater. G9 teamed up with The Factory Outlet and many more contributors, starting off a flood relief campaign which was well received and acknowledged.

Members contributed in terms of money, vehicles, time and effort. They visited many corners and locations in the Western Province, tracing callers and validating authenticity — reaching families who had to give up their houses and look for shelter elsewhere.

During this cause, members of G9 made the decision to call off the annual Ifthar Project which was around the corner, and use those funds for the relief programme instead — a true reflection of the batch’s values and brotherhood.
